This year's annual theme of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning deals with the examination of existing structures as a major task for the future of both disciplines.

The transformation of the built enviroment is one of the most important challenges in the fields of architecture and spatial planning. In the winter and summer semesters of 2024 and beyond, the focus in both teaching and research will therefore be on issues relating to built enviroment. Topics such as climate change, saving space and sustainable building are currently very much in the media spotlight. The annual theme of "Transformation in Existing Buildings" will bring together the diversity of our faculty and make it visible.

The contribution that architecture and spatial planning can make in this context is also emphasised. A broad spectrum of courses under the annual theme of the sustainable and social transformation of existing buildings, which goes beyond the boundaries of the students' own specialisms, promotes trans- and interdisciplinary collaboration and gives students a comprehensive view of one of the most important topics of our time. Furthermore, through inter- and transdisciplinary research beyond the boundaries of their own subject area, researchers should recognise and use important synergies to strengthen research as a whole.
