On-Site Lecture at Volkswagen Slovakia

One of the highlights of Professional MBA Automotive Industry is the on-site lecture at the production site of OEMs. It provides a good chance for the participants to feel and see the working atmosphere and environment of an automotive company. Volkswagen Slovakia in Bratislava organized a lecture on “Production strategy and process in the Automotive Industry” including a factory tour and lean activities at the production site.

Volkswagen Group with its nine brands is the biggest car producer in Europe and the third biggest worldwide. In 2009 Volkswagen group produced more than 6 million cars. In February 1991 Volkswagen took over a small car factory in Bratislava. After significant investment into this factory now VW Slovakia produces 3 models: Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg, body of Porsche Cayenne and in 2011 will start production of New Small Family cars for 3 brands – Volkswagen, Å koda and SEAT. Also the transmission for further VW group is produced here. In 2009 the factory produced 106,000 vehicles with 6,500 employees.  

After a presentation of the company the production strategy and processes in the automotive industry were introduced. In detail the production system at Volkswagen group was discussed. Volkswagen Group has a production vision that in 2018 the Volkswagen Group will be value-adding oriented, synchronous
company bases on the best production system.

After the lecture the tour of the factory started from body shop of AUDI Q7. In the quality control area there was an explanation about the quality of the color. The next stop of the tour was the chassis assembly. The tour finished at the final assembly line of the car. Onwards the lecture on the new logistic concepts and its realization gave participants the importance of the logistics in an added-value oriented company. During the lean activities participants had a possibility to optimize the production process and learned about the optimization process with the trainers of the Volkswagen Slovakia.
