Research Activities

Functional Ceramics are an important class of materials that are used for energy conversion, energy storage, or as active materials in sensors. Important fields are batteries, fuel and electrolysis cells and sensors. In our group we try to advance the material’s performance and safety by a detailed understanding of their structure-property relations. In our work we often use well-defined epitaxial thin films as model systems and compare those to materials used in applications. Electrochemical characterization methods performed in situ or operando in customized setups play an important role together with XRD techniques and surface analytic methods (ToF-SIMS, XRD, AMES, SEM/TEM techniques).
