The scope of duties mainly includes pressure vessels, piping, valves and safety equipment as used in chemical plant engineering. Design and calculation are main focus, where methods are being further developed for Design by Analysis and special interest exists in fatigue and creep damage. On the part of the testing of pressure equipment, the research work concentrates on the field of acoustic emission testing.

History:

In 1988, the Institute of Pressure Vessel and Plant Technology was established as an institute of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the TU Wien, which was headed by O. Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Josef Zeman until his retirement (2006).

With the beginning of 2007 the institute was integrated into the Institute of Engineering Design and Technical Logistics. Currently the field is in charge of Ao.Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Franz Rauscher.
