Research Unit Industrial Energy Systems

At the Research Unit Industrial Energy Systems, led by Univ.Prof. René Hofmann, we cover the fundamentals and application aspects of energy technologies for industrial systems and digitalization. Our special expertise lies in the operation and design optimization of industrial processes with mathematical programming as well as the application of digital twin methods for energy systems. Our research deals with advanced methods for increasing the energy efficiency and flexibility of industrial energy systems and we maintain close collaboration with industrial partners.

SIC! hosted a PhD workshop during the DACH+ Conference on Energy Informatics

The 12^th DACH+ Conference on Energy Informatics took place in Vienna from October 4 to 6, 2023. It is part of a conference series dedicated to promoting the research, development, and implementation of information and communication technologies in the energy domain and to fostering the exchange between academia, industry, and service providers in the German-Austrian-Swiss region and its neighbouring countries (DACH+). This year the conference was co-organized by the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), opens an external URL in a new window, the Austrian Electrotechnical Association (OVE), opens an external URL in a new window and the Austrian Computer Society (OCG), opens an external URL in a new window.

The doctoral school NextGeneration Smart Industrial concept! (SIC!) was invited to host one of six PhD workshops during the conference. Within the scope of "Optimization of Energy Systems" there were presentations, practical examples and interactive discussions. International PhD students and young industry experts were able to broaden their understanding of optimization principles, get to know real application cases and gain new ideas and insights for their own work.
