We decided to set up a Green Team at the GEO department because we were tired of reading and hearing about the dangers of pollution and climate change every day without feeling that anything was changing. Just complaining is not an alternative, so we wanted to take action.

We are fully aware that our potential successes on a global scale are negligible. None of the figures below are even remotely affected by the actions of the GEO Green Team. But with the Green Team, our reach is much greater than that of individuals. People tend to say, "I'm just one of 7 billion, my actions don't affect anyone". Well, since the tiny little negative actions of billions of individuals together have caused a serious imbalance on the planet, we are deeply convinced that the tiny little positive actions of a large number of individuals together can also contribute to tangible improvements in this regard. The GEO Green Team is just one small piece of the puzzle, but it highlights the impact of a group of people with one desire: to make all our lives more sustainable.

We are convinced that change must come from the bottom up, from the people. In a growth-oriented globalized economic system, it is unlikely that environmental protection will ever receive the priority it needs. The dangers of pollution and climate change are in the news more often than ever, but political efforts to seriously tackle these problems remain insignificant. As a result, per capita CO2 emissions continue to rise and climate targets are regularly missed.
