Lecture Content (Trailer Below)

As part of the lecture ‘Planning Processes with BIM’, students are familiarised with key topics such as integral planning processes, BIM planning methods, BIM-supported cost calculations and material building passports, and are made aware of aspects such as sustainability, environmental awareness and life cycle assessment in the construction sector (VO part). At the same time, they are given the opportunity to develop BIM-supported concepts for improving circularity, reducing building masses and optimising the life cycle assessment of a sample project. In addition, they carry out comparative cost calculations for a standard and an optimised variant.

Structure of the Course

Lecture part (30%):

  • Introduction to the approach to integral planning processes
  • Introduction to the BIM planning method
  • Introduction to BIM-supported cost calculation
  • Introduction to the topic ‘Material building pass’

Exercise part (70%):

  • Data preparation from a BIM model
  • Cost calculation based on the BIM model
  • Assessment of recyclability by creating a material building passport (MBP)
  • Calculation of the life cycle assessment
  • Ecological building optimisation

Proof of Performance

The Lecture VU Planning Processes with BIM consists of two parts: a lecture with a final written exam and practical exercises consisting of four tasks, a technical report, a building pass and a final presentation.
