Carrying the Summer Heat into the Winter
With this new type of solid heat storage, even seasonal periods can be bridged without the necessity of thermal insulation. Centrepiece of this storage system is the novel thermo-chemical suspension reactor.
In this suspension reactor, solids are "activated" by a heat input. If the stored heat is required again, the active solid is recombined with water and the heat is dissipated immediately. The thermo-chemical cycle is now completed – and can be started again. The focus lies on waste heat in the low-temperature range of 70 °C to 200 °C. The process is scalable and only releases pure water while the active solid can be easily stored. Like electricity stored in a battery, the stored heat can be released on demand.
This effectively makes the presented technology a sustainable and climate-friendly heat storage system, providing emission-free heating without storage losses.
