Group size: Min. 8 - Max. 12 participants
Target group: All TU lecturers who teach in English
By the end of the course, participants will have learnt to teach more confidently using English as a medium of instruction. This will include:
- Using their linguistic skills more effectively to present and explain course content in individual contexts
- Dealing with awkward situations in the teaching environment
- Understanding and considering the additional linguistic and communicative requirements of the students
Content:
Amongst other things this workshop will focus on:
- Using appropriate language for describing processes and data and any other course content
- Providing instructions, explaining objectives and giving course details, including relevant higher education terminology
- Tips and advice on giving feedback and offering criticism
- Considerations for effective management of the learning environment
- Dealing with students’ questions and answers • Check-up on pronunciation and other language issues
Methods:
- Practical role-play tasks will be provided to give each participant ample opportunity to practise in a relaxed yet focussed way.
- Participants will be encouraged to work on and practise elements of their own individual teaching material and gain peer-feedback.
- The multi-stage workshop is designed to maximise the effect of regular practice.
- Constructive feedback will be provided with a focus on individual needs.
- A variety of exercise types will be offered, providing a stimulating and effective learning environment.
