Univ.Prof. Mag.rer.nat. Dr.rer.nat. Martina Marchetti-Deschmann, opens an external URL in a new window was appointed as University Professor of Mass Spectrometric Methods at TU Wien with effect from April 1, 2020. CV: Martina Marchetti-Deschmann studied Chemistry at the University of Vienna, where she was awarded her doctorate in 2003 for her thesis on "Characterization of allergy-related proteins and peptides in natural latex gloves and flowers of Sambucus Nigra by mass spectrometry, opens an external URL in a new window". She has been at TU Wien since 2003, and in 2013 she obtained her Venia Docendi, thus qualifying her to teach, in the field of Instrumental Bioanalytical Chemistry with the habilitation on “From proteomics to mass spectrometric imaging - Mass spectrometry and electrophoresis as central bioanalytical tools to assess complex biological samples”, opens an external URL in a new window. Since 2013 she is Associate Prof. and from 2016-17 she was Visiting Prof. at the Vanderbilt University (Nashville, US) and also headed the “Omics” Technologies research group. Since April 2025, she has been Vice-Rector for Research, International Affairs and Sustainability, opens an external URL in a new window at vetmeduni in Vienna.

Special roles at the TU Wien: Martina Marchetti-Deschmann has been active on various committees at the TU Wien since 2010. From 2010 to 2020, she was a substitute member of the Senate (category: university lecturers and academic and artistic staff involved in research, the arts and teaching). During the 2022–2025 term of office, she served as 3rd Deputy Chair of the Senate. She has been a member of the Works Council for the Academic and Artistic University Staff since 2016. She was also a member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Technical Chemistry from 2012 to 2019, serving as its Chair from 2016 to 2019.

Martina Marchetti-Deschmann’s academic home is the Research Group for Mass Spectrometric Bio- and Polymer Analysis within the Research Unit of Instrumental and Imaging Analytical Chemistry (E164-01). She also headed this research group from 2018 to 2025 (and, from 2024 to 2025, the Institute for Chemical Technologies and Analytics). Her research focuses on the further development of mass spectrometric methods, with an emphasis on correlative, imaging mass spectrometry in the fields of life and materials sciences. Since 2022, she has been leading the Mature Tissue, opens an external URL in a new window doctoral programme (E056-14) on these topics. She is also involved in the ‘Towards Applications of 2D Materials’ doctoral programme and the ENROL DP doctoral programme.
