Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Iva Kovacic was appointed as University Professor of Integral Planning at TU Wien with effect from March 1, 2019. She was assigned to the Institute for Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management (E234) and, starting in 2022, to the Institute of Building and Industrial Construction, opens an external URL in a new window (E210) within the Faculty of Civil and Enviromental Engineering, opens in new window. Since September 2022, she has also served as the institute’s Head.

CV: Iva Kovacic Iva Kovacic is from Zagreb, Croatia. She studied Architecture at TU Wien and was employed as architect at various architectural offices in Vienna and Munich. In part-time she completed her postgraduate studies in Construction Project Management at the Bauhaus University, Weimar. After finishing her studies, she has been associated with the Institute of Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management since 2002, where she was awarded her doctorate in 2005 for her thesis on "Developing strategies for sustainable planning: building as a dynamic system, opens an external URL in a new window". In 2016, she obtained the venia docendi, thus qualifying her to teach in the area of Integral Planning with her habilitation on "Advances in integrated building design and planning methodology: exploratory studies for the optimisation of people - process - technology interaction in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, opens an external URL in a new window". Beginning in 2016, she served as an associate professor and head of the Integral Planning research group. As part of the reorganization of the Faculty of Civil and Enviromental Engineering, she moved from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management (E234, which was closed) to the Institute for Building and Industrial Construction.

Special roles at TU Wien: Iva Kovacic serves as spokesperson for the University professors’ group in the Senate, of which she has been a voting member since 2019.

She is the Head of the Research Unit of Integrated Planning and Industrial Building (E210-01). She is also member and Principal Investigator within the Cooperation Centre at GCD - The Center for Geometry and Computational Design, opens an external URL in a new window and leading researcher of the FWF Special Research Programmes (SRP) “Advanced Computational Design“. Her research focuses on: Building Information Modeling, computational design, BIM-supported building material passports, digital platforms for the circular economy, research-driven teaching (Integrated BIM Design Lab), and experimental research on integrated, collaborative planning.
