Associate Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn Albert Hirtl, opens an external URL in a new window has been assigned to the Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics (E141) at the Faculty of Physics as Associate Professor of Medical Radiation Physics since September 1, 2025.

CV: Albert Hirtl studied technical physics at the Vienna University of Technology, where he also earned his doctorate in 2008 with a dissertation on “Determination of the strong interaction ground state width in pionic hydrogen”, opens an external URL in a new window. From 2002 onwards, he was also employed at the Stefan Meyer Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in the course of his dissertation. After obtaining his doctorate, he conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow at the Medical University of Vienna in the field of medical imaging from 2009 to 2015. In 2015, he returned to the Vienna University of Technology, where he also collaborated with MedAustron, which opened in 2016. In 2020, he secured a career position, which he has now successfully completed with the qualification of associate professor. In addition, in 2024, he obtained his venia docendi, opens an external URL in a new window in radiation physics with a habilitation thesis on “Advanced imaging techniques in diagnostics and ion beam therapy, opens an external URL in a new window.”

His scientific home is the Nuclear and Particle Physics Research Unit (E141-03).
