Stefan Baudis studied chemistry at TU Wien and graduated with a master's degree in 2007, specializing in polymer chemistry. During his thesis, he began to focus his work on the field of biomaterials and developed new concepts for the additive manufacturing (3D printing) of soft tissue replacement materials based on photoelastomers. Later, during his doctorate, he expanded the material portfolio to include thermoplastic urethane elastomers as a basis for electrospun blood vessel replacements. After completing his doctorate in 2011, he joined the Institute for Biomaterials Research at the Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht in Teltow, where he acquired additional skills by setting up a high-throughput facility for the combinatorial, robot-assisted development of polymeric biomaterials. After his postdoctoral studies in Germany, he returned to the Macromolecular Chemistry Research Division of the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry at TU Wien and established the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Advanced Polymers for Biomaterials and 3D Printing.
