Study content

The Master's Programme in Quantum Information Science and Technology is interdisciplinary in order to provide a holistic understanding of quantum information technology and, based on this, to advance its development through innovative approaches. The students acquire the necessary basic knowledge in the areas

  • Quantum Physics
  • Quantum Technology and Devices
  • Quantum Information and Computing

and then have the opportunity to choose a focus from a cross-faculty catalog of specializations. This enables the level of training to be aligned as well as flexible adaptation to the interests and strengths of the students


Admission to the Master's Programme in Quantum Information Science and Technology requires the completion of a relevant Bachelor's Programme or another relevant degree course of at least the same higher education level at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution. A degree program is eligible if basic knowledge, skills and competencies in the fields of linear algebra, analysis, statistics and programming are taught. In any case, the Bachelor's Programmes "Technical Physics", "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology", "Computer Science", "Computer Engineering" and "Technical Mathematics" at the TU Wien are eligible. Supplementary examinations may be prescribed to compensate for significant subject-specific differences and must be taken by the end of the second semester of the Master's Programme.

This Programme is taught in English. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of the required language skills. The form of proof is specified in a regulation issued by the Rectorate.
