Mainly used for educational purposes and to teach student courses, the KHD T 216 is a single shaft gas turbine. It contains a single stage radial compressor (pressure ratio 2,8) and a single combustion chamber followed by a single stage turbine (where the maximum temperature at the outlet is 650°C). Additionally, it is fired by diesel and has a rated power of 75kW, achieving a maximum speed of 50000rpm. The inlet of the turbine is also equipped with an orifice that allows for mass flow metering. Following a gear box (which allows for reduction of the revolutions to a maximum of 3000rpm) the energy is dissipated using an eddy current brake (Schenk W130).
