The Main Library of TU Wien Bibliothek is located in the "building with the owl sculpture" on Karlsplatz. In the open access areas you will find literature by subject category. Our initial consultation staff will be happy to help you search for literature.

Study desks

Quiet and group study zones

Most people come to the library to learn in a quiet environment in a focused atmosphere. For most of our reading areas, the following applies: Please be quiet! Quiet zones can be found in the reading areas on the 2nd to the 4th floor.

Teamwork is part of learning. The entire 5th floor is available for group work and there are also some areas for group work on the 1st floor.

Group study rooms

On the 5th floor, bookable group study rooms, opens in new window are available for groups of at least three TU Wien students. These can be booked for a maximum of 3.5 hours.

Coffee area

In the ground floor coffee area, you can sit together, talk, eat, drink and use mobile phones.

PC workstations

TU Wien students can use their TUaccount to access the 1st floor PCs, on which a number of programs are available. For details, see Information Technology Solutions, opens in new window.

Catalogue terminals

For literature searches, you can access CatalogPlus, opens an external URL in a new window, e-books, e-journals and databases on the library terminals. Library terminals can be found on all floors in the open-access area and at the circulation desk. You can save documents to a USB stick. Scanning, copying and printing

A3 book scanners are available in the open-access areas on the 1st to the 5th floor. You will also find an A2 scanner on the 1st floor. The scans can be stored on a USB stick free of charge. When handling digital documents, please observe copyright laws and our terms of use for e-resources.

On the 1st floor next to the big book scanner, there is a ScanTent, where you can use your own devices such as smartphone, tablet or camera to take photos or make scans under ideal lighting conditions.

Lockers

Only personal learning materials, laptops, writing equipment, books and beverages in sealable containers may be taken into the library. Please leave anything else in the lockers (accessible with valid TUcard or library card). Guests are kindly requested to use the coin-operated lockers in the basement. The lockers are emptied every evening and cannot be occupied overnight.

Valuables

Please do not leave any valuables unattended at your study desk!

Lost property

Please contact the ground floor circulation desk. Lost property is stored in the library for a few days and then handed over to the lost property office. The contents of unemptied lockers are also considered lost property.
