The development, composition and nature of plans of mosques in the Turkish-Islamic Architecture have always been a question. Courtyards are one of the major determining factors of the typology. Beside their geometrical properties, their size, position and use are also effective on this determination. Starting from the introduction of the Turkihs Culture to Islam, the process of re-shaping in mosque?s typology was unavoidable. In this presentation the courtyards of mosques will be evaluated in terms of position, geometry and use untill they reach to their classical manner in Istanbul.
