From the winter semester 2023, the programme will be renamed Building Science and Environment.

A selection procedure is carried out PRIOR to admission

For the English-language Master's programme Building Science and Environment, 35 places will be allocated in the coming academic year. The allocation of places takes place within the framework of a four-stage selection procedure, which all registered applicants who meet the general admission requirements on the basis of their previous education must go through.

Prerequisite for the participation in the selection procedure is the online registration in the TU-own Campus Software TISS. The online registration is carried out once a year before the beginning of the winter semester and is valid for the academic year. It is recommended to start in winter semester.

Programme contents

The Master in Building Science and Environment program targets students who wish to develop and deepen their knowledge in the areas of building performance, sustainable design and building informatics. The program is interdisciplinary and taught in English.

Significant social, economic, and environmental changes are causing a growing demand for high-performance and sustainable buildings. Due to advancements in science and technology, such buildings are ever more
diverse in function and shape as well as more energy efficient and responsive to occupants’ needs. Students in the graduate program Building Science and Environment learn how to apply scientific methods and State-of-the-art technologies in order to address the multi-faceted challenges posed by high performance and sustainable buildings.

Admission requirements

The program is open to graduates with degrees from one of the following accredited national or international degreegranting programs (Bachelor, Master, Diploma): architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and cognitive sciences. Furthermore, candidates with degrees from universities of applied sciences with commensurate qualification may be accepted. Other prerequisites: proficiency in English, familiarity with basic computing tools.

The programme has a strong interdisciplinary character and is open to candidates from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds, such as architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science. International students are encouraged to apply. Contact with colleagues from different professional and cultural backgrounds is an essential part of the programme.

3 semesters of full-time study, 1 semester of Master's thesis (120 ECTS). The prerequisite for graduation is the successful completion of course examinations and the writing of a Master's thesis, which is documented in a dissertation and defended in an oral final examination before a committee.

Graduates are awarded the academic degree Master of Science (MSc). This degree is equivalent to the Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl. Ing. or DI).
