The FAIR Data Austria, opens an external URL in a new window project is one of the selected digitisation projects at public universities which are funded by the BMBWF between 2020 and 2024. Project partners are TU Graz (lead) and the University of Vienna. Furthermore, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Medical University of Graz and the University of Innsbruck are involved in the project as cooperation partners as well as 23 associated partners (universities and international initiatives). FAIR Data Austria, together with the funded projects Austrian DataLAB and Services, opens an external URL in a new window and RIS Synergy, opens an external URL in a new window, forms the cluster Research Data, opens an external URL in a new window, which is coordinated by TU Wien.

This project contributes to the strengthening of knowledge transfer between universities, business and society and supports the sustainable implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The implementation of the FAIR principles ("findable", "accessible", "interoperable" and "re-usable") plays a major role in this context. Their compliance is ensured

1. through integrated research data management (RDM), which is tailored to the discipline-specific and generic needs of the research groups,
2. by establishing and developing next-generation repositories for research data, code and other research outcomes; and
3. by developing training and support services for efficient research data management.

Thus, "FAIR Data Austria" forms complementary building blocks in the area of RDM for the projects "Austrian DataLab and Services" and "RIS Synergy".
