Repository operation handed over to TU.it

TU Wien Research Data, the institutional data repository of TU Wien, is now available to all TU Wien members as a standard service.

This photo shows Doris Matisovits and Maximilian Moser sitting next to each other at a table and looking at each other. On the table in front of them are coffee cups.

For two and a half years, the repository team of the Center for Research Data Management has worked intensively on setting up and securely operating TUW's own platform for the permanent storage, sharing, and publication of research data. After a successful test phase - a big thank you to all test users for their cooperation and valuable feedback - the operation of the repository has now been handed over to IT Solutions TU.it.

Towards FAIR Data and Open Science

TU Wien Research Data, opens an external URL in a new window can be used for digital objects of any kind, but especially for research data. It thus complements other repository services of TU Wien, such as reposiTUm and TUgitLab.

The data repository supports compliance with the FAIR principles and the Open Science idea and thus also fulfils the requirements of various funding bodies. Regulations on the visibility and reusability of the datasets are defined during the upload process, the options range from private to partially restricted to completely open. Each dataset is assigned a license to regulate subsequent use and a persistent identifier (DOI) for unique citability. After publication, the datasets are not only discoverable in TU Wien Research Data itself, but are also indexed in external search services such as OpenAIRE and DataCite to increase visibility and discoverability.

Ongoing development

Alongside the ongoing operation, the Center for Research Data Management takes care of the continuous development of TU Wien Research Data. Our repository team is active both at the level of InvenioRDM, the open source basis of the repository, and directly at the TUW service. Planned features for this year include the display of download statistics for the datasets and improved workflows around the already built-in Communities feature.

In the future, we also want to enable external users, for example employees of other research institutions, to log in. In addition, the data repository will be linked even more closely with other TU Wien services. For example, a connection to the new TU Wien DMP tool, opens an external URL in a new window is planned to facilitate the exchange of information on research data between the systems and its use in the data management plans.

Of course, this is only a small selection of the planned further development. A complete list would go beyond the scope of this article. So stay tuned, we will continue to keep you informed!

Further information

Further information can be found in the service description, opens in new window, directly at the TU Wien Research Data, opens an external URL in a new window website, in the FAQ and in the Upload Guide, opens an external URL in a new window.

If you are interested in more details about the repository and the specific upload process, we cordially invite you to the workshop Publishing data in TU Wien's research data repository, opens an external URL in a new window on 16.05.2023.

If you have any questions about your upload, need more storage space than the usual 75 GB per dataset or would like to make other adjustments, simply send your request to the repository team. They're located right next door!
