Price Winner: Fabian Garmroudi

Physicist Fabian Garmroudi is working on thermoelectrics - specifically, he is looking for materials that have high electrical conductivity but low thermal conductivity. He is not yet 30 years old, but already has impressive expertise in the field of thermoelectrics. He proves this time and again as the first author of scientific articles.
He has been working in his field of research since his bachelor's thesis, and for his diploma thesis he spent over six months at the University of Tokyo in Kaoru Kimura's renowned research group. For his dissertation, he returned to TU Wien and took up a position at the Institute of Solid State Physics in the working group of Ernst Bauer (who was recently awarded the honorary prize of the International Thermoelectric Society).

Fabian Garmroudi is highly successful scientifically, but his private interests are also impressive: He is semi-professional at table tennis and his piano playing won him the "prima la musica" youth music competition. His research, however, is his favorite hobby, as he says: For example, he loves spending his time supervising other Bachelor's and Master's students with their research work. He also loves putting his findings into an understandable form and presenting them.

With the Lions Sponsorshiop of 4,000€, Fabian Garmroudi was able to finance a research stay in Japan at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS).
