Terms and conditions of borrowing
Most publications held by TU Wien Bibliothek may be taken out on loan, provided that you have a valid library card. Publications can be borrowed using the self issue terminals or at the circulation desk in the Main Library and in the Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering Library. You can help yourself to any media from the shelves in the open access areas of the library. CDs and DVDs are available from the circulation desk.
- Maximum number
30 media items (persons under age 18: 10 media items)
- Loan period
4 weeks (unless otherwise specified), maximum 6 months in total, extension via your library account
- In CatalogPlus, media available for loan have the item status “4 week loan”; in the open access area, these media bear a green label stating that they are “Ausleihbar (available for loan)”.
- In CatalogPlus, media that are not available for loan have the item status "Not loanable”; in the open access area, these media bear a red label stating that they are "Nicht ausleihbar (not available for loan)".
Media on loan can be returned to the circulation desk in the Main Library or in the Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering Library, regardless of where they were borrowed. In the Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering Library, you will also find a returns flap at the aisle next to the entrance.
Books returned outside the opening hours of the circulation desk will not be posted to your library account until the next working day.
Please note that borrowed media must be returned at or before the end of the loan period. Fines will be payable for the late return of books, see the Scale of Fees document.
You can use CatalogPlus to place a hold request for an item that is on loan to someone else. You cannot place a hold request on media that are not out on loan.
We will send you an e-mail when your requested item is available at the Requested Books shelf. The media you have reserved are held for 5 working days from the date of this e-mail and can be borrowed using the self issue terminals.

Scan on demand
Using the "Scan on demand" form, you can request a full text of our copyright-free printed materials. For this service, a fee may be charged in some cases. On receiving your order, the Inter-Library Loans & Digitisation team will make a scan of the printed volume, provided this is allowed by copyright and the condition of the item is good enough to allow scanning without damage. Our team will inform you if a scan cannot be made.
