Generally, courses are held in German. Therefore, German at B2 level is a prerequisite for studying at Bachelor- or Master-Level. Only the Master's Programme "Telecommunications" contains courses in English and can be studied without proof of German.

Courses are identified by course numbers of six digits, the first three digits - with a few exceptions - denoting the institute running the course. The main course types are

UE ... Übung (exercise)
VU ... Vorlesungsübung (lecture & exercise)
LU ... Laborübung (laboratory exercise)

The course volume is given in ECTS.

Admission (Bachelor, Master) at TU Wien

Applications for admission have to be submitted to the "Admission Office" (Studienabteilung, opens an external URL in a new window) of our university. Information and forms for the admission procedure and tuition fees can be found here:

Admission to a Master's Programme is possible with a fitting bachelor degree from another university. Additional exams might be imposed on you by the Dean of Studies, if the contents of your Bachelor's Programme do not cover all prerequisites for the desired Master's Programme.

Applications for admission should be submitted as early as possible since processing might take considerable time and admission must be settled by September 5th for the winter term. Presently, EU citizens fulfilling the formal requirements, will be accepted without further selection process. Non-EU citizens have to submit a certification that they would be admitted for the same or a similar study in their home country ("special university qualifications"), in addition to the other documents.

The OEAD (Österreichischer Austauschdienst) offers support for students coming from abroad. For general information, please have a look at oead.at, opens an external URL in a new window.

Please keep in mind that non-EU citizens must have a residence permit for Austria. For more info, please contact the Austrian embassy in your home country.

Doctoral Programme

On top of the "Diplomstudium", a Master's Programme or an equivalent qualification a "Doktoratsstudium" (Doctoral Programme) is possible. The starting point for engaging in a doctoral programme is to look for and find a supervisor. This is especially important, if you have obtained your diploma abroad, as it is required in this case to have the written consent of your future supervisor on the application form. You can find potential supervisors by searching the web sites of appropriate institutes for research areas of your interest and by contacting the professors mentioned there.

Application form and infosheet are available at the Admission Office (Studienabteilung, opens an external URL in a new window):
