Teresa Liberto

Info

Originally from Italy, Teresa completed her studies in Chemical Engineering before pursuing a PhD in Physics at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France, within the European doctoral network NanoHeal. Her doctoral work explored the physicochemical behavior of calcite, laying the foundation for her interdisciplinary approach to sustainable materials research.

Prof. Liberto joined Technische Universität Wien in 2019, first as a postdoctoral researcher and later as a tenure track Assistant Professor focusing on sustainable cementitious materials. Her research combines principles from physics, chemistry, and materials science to investigate the fresh-state behavior of cementitious systems, with a particular focus on reducing the carbon footprint of concrete.

Teresa Liberto’s work centers on understanding how particle-scale interactions influence the macroscopic properties of fresh binders. Recent projects include studying the early hydration behavior of sustainable systems such as alkali-activated binders, recycled materials, and limestone–calcined clay cements. She is also exploring pourable solutions based on raw earth.

After successfully completing her tenure track in June 2025, Teresa is now promoted to Associate Professor. In addition to her research, she is actively involved in interdisciplinary teaching and mentoring, with a strong emphasis on sustainable construction materials and science communication, including presenting with impact.
