The works council
What is the works council?
The works council (collegial body) represents the interests of general staff employees and is elected by you. The works council consists of 14 members of the general staff who organize themselves into various factions, hold regular meetings, and make decisions in the interests of the employees. These decisions are then communicated to the rectorate by the chairpersons. The decision on implementation is the responsibility of the rectorate. One of its main tasks is to provide advice and support to colleagues.
What is its purpose?
The works council for general staff represents the interests of employees at TU Wien, and the works council members are the first point of contact for any problems you may have at work. Works council members act in accordance with the Labor Constitution Act, which gives them the right to represent employees.
What are the benefits of a works council?
Representation and advice:
- In the event of unfair dismissal:
- if your salary is too low,
- if working conditions are not lawful,
- for many questions that arise in your employment relationship.
- In terms of its right to intervene, the works council is entitled to report grievances in the company to the relevant authorities (labor inspectorate, chamber of labor, trade union, etc.) and to demand measures to remedy the deficiencies.
- The works council is entitled to make suggestions for improving working conditions, training, and employee-friendly workplace design and, if necessary, to conclude corresponding works agreements.
In short:
The works council represents the interests of the general staff at TU Wien.
Elections are held every five years.
