Jonas Wiel

Jonas Wiel studied Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on Urban Design, particularly the conversion of obsolete industrial areas, at BTU Cottbus, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 2015. In 2017, he began the Master's program in Urbanism at Bauhaus University Weimar, with a closer focus on the theory and approaches of urban metabolism. In 2018, he transferred to the Urban Design program at TU Berlin, in collaboration with Tongji University Shanghai, where he graduated in 2019 with a thesis on the transformation of social housing in Shanghai.

After completing his Master's degree, Wiel gained international professional experience in urban design and urban planning through work in various offices, as well as through freelance practice and participation in competitions. Since May 2023, he has been working at the Research Unit of Local Planning at TU Wien, where he is engaged in teaching urban design as well as researching the role of urban design in the context of urban transformation processes, while pursuing his PhD.
