The Academy of Circular Economy has released its second policy paper – with clear messages for policymakers, businesses, and society: Huge Climate Protection Potential: Recycling and the circular economy can significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions – both through direct emission reductions and by substituting primary raw materials. Targeted Use of Policy Instruments: EU Emissions Trading, Green Deal reporting, and new accounting systems must be designed so that all actors along the value chain benefit – from waste producers to recyclers to industry. Fostering Innovation & Incentives: Better data, standardized reporting methods, and attractive investment incentives are key to closing high-quality material cycles and avoiding market failures. The message is clear: Climate protection through a circular economy requires a well-coordinated mix of regulation, market mechanisms, and innovation.
