Fireside chat on bicycle traffic research & the mobility transition

Martin Loidl (University of Salzburg) and Tadej Brezina summarized the contents of their hosted fireside chat “Austrian Cycling Research – Bridging the Gap to the Practice of Mobility Transition” at the 16th Austrian Cycling Summit (held in early June 2025 in Saalfelden, organized by klimaaktiv).

In addition to the topics discussed by the panel, such as the habits of decision-makers and trying out “quick and dirty” solutions in a society where car culture is “implicit knowledge,” the audience brought further topics into the discussion. These included questions of liability as well as creative ways of dealing with regulations that are often perceived as rigid.

A continuation of the fireside chat as a “dialogue forum for science and practice” at the next Austrian Cycling and Mobility Summits would be a good way to actively contribute to linking cycling research and practical implementation and to support a continuous exchange.
