The industrial future is facing profound changes: flexibility, circularity and climate neutrality are becoming key guidelines for competitive production and energy systems. To address these questions, the BMIMI and the TU Wien organized the IETS’s biannual ExCo Meeting and a national workshop titled “Shaping the industrial future – making energy systems more flexible and paving the way for a circular economy”.
Leading national and international experts from research and industry presented cutting-edge research projects and exchanged insights on sustainable industrial transformation. From making sector-coupled energy supply more flexible, industrial symbiosis and CCUS to digitalization and AI – the event provided insights into the key drivers and barriers to industrial transformation. Presentations and a panel discussion showed national and international initiatives such as the IEA's Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems (IETS) program and opportunities for participation.
The required balance between flexibility and security, especially for industrial settings and energy systems was one of the central topics discussed. The high technical but also regulatory complexity makes the exchange between all stakeholders essential. It was therefore a special pleasure to see the IETS bringing together policy makers (Federal Ministry Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure), funding agencies (Climate and Energy Fund) universities and extrauniversitarian research organisations (TU Wien, Energieinstitut der Johannes Kepler Universität, AIT and RISE) as well as Industry (Verbund X, CyberGrid, GIG Karasek) to discuss the industrial future.
A special thank you goes out to the Organizations which made this event possible:
