Lecture theatre QA 01 01 at Theresianumgasse 27 in the Wieden district of Vienna can accommodate 70 students, mainly from business engineering courses, and has been renamed the ‘Bombardier Lecture Theatre’ as of January 2019. Bombardier Transportation Austria’s sponsorship marks the important role it is taking in the modernization of the teaching and learning spaces. Its involvement also helps to support TU Wien’s efforts to consolidate and expand this centre for research and innovation.

“Through our partnership, we are able to help shape the key priorities of the future in the rail industry. This is the point where science meets industry, and we want to help strengthen this interface while also finding promising ways of utilising synergies and promoting innovation,” says Christian Diewald, Managing Director of Bombardier Austria. The main focus of this partnership is on acquiring skills and knowledge in theory and in practice. It is essential that there is an active transfer of knowledge to the industry to enable it to meet technological challenges and drive new developments.

“Both sides benefit from this excellent partnership. Our students have a modern learning space available to them and Bombardier has a presence at TU Wien as a research partner and patron of engineering students,” Rector Sabine Seidler says gratefully. The Business Engineering course specialising in Mechanical Engineering at TU Wien imparts engineering, mathematical, socioscientific, economic and IT knowledge, so that students are able to model and simulate systems from different perspectives. To be able to meet variable requirements, industrial engineers must have hands-on professional scientific knowledge and methodological skills. Students learn how to design, optimise and implement operational processes in terms of business production of goods and services. The combination of technical expertise and modern management techniques makes this course an excellent investment for a successful career in the Austrian or European economy.
