Soil protection forum in the Salzkammergut!

On 3 June 2014, the Land Policy and Land Management research department at TU Wien organised a workshop entitled "Soil Protection Forum" as part of the Capital of Culture Salzkammergut. Representatives of the municipalities spent an afternoon at the Gmunden Stadttheater discussing the challenges of land use in the Capital of Culture region.

The workshop began with a tour of the exhibition "Boden g'scheit nutzen" organised by the Landluft association. This was followed by the actual workshop in the Gmunden Stadttheater. It started with a presentation on "Bodenstrategie" by Prof Arthur Kanonier, opens an external URL in a new window from Land Policy and Land Management research department. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Mathias Pichler, opens an external URL in a new window from the Österreichischer Gemeindebund, who presented the Bodenschutzplan of the Gemeindebund. The participants were then invited to take part in a discussion round with Prof Arthur Kanonier and the Vice President of the Lower Austrian Association of Municipalities, Seif Stefan, opens an external URL in a new window, to discuss various soil-saving measures and their implementation in the Salzkammergut. Barbara Steinbrunner, opens an external URL in a new window from the TU Wien moderated the discussion. With the help of expert input from Prof Arthur Kanonier and Dr Mathias Pichler, an active discussion developed. There was an intensive exchange between the municipalities about common challenges such as urban sprawl, second homes, major tourism projects and similar issues.
