There is a broadly shared commitment to making lakes and other natural areas accessible to the general public. In many places, this aim has already been achieved. However, long stretches of the lakeshores are still occupied by private houses, hotels and infrastructural facilities, and no-trespassing signs dominate the lakeshores. The Austrian situation has not yet been systematically compared. What is the actual situation of the lakes?
