Students from the real estate coursesof the TU Wien ACE had the opportunity to visit the project "Favorite Spring" in Quellenstraße together with architect Armin Daneshgar. The Gründerzeit property in the increasingly popular trendy district around the old Ankerbrot factory was renovated to high quality standards and newly developed on the upper floors. Not just maintaining such buildings, but also optimizing them in terms of energy efficiency requires a great deal of commitment, idealism and creativity.

Daneshgar Architects and Ulreich Bauträger added a modern accent to the classic building structure with the elaborate loft conversion, slightly twisting the attached cubature and orienting it toward the sun and green space. Students in the 2021 and 2022 cohorts took the opportunity to ask the architect about the biggest challenges him and his team faced in planning and executing the project.

Technologically exemplary in terms of sustainability, the phasing out of fossil fuels and retrofitting of the project which was completed in December 2021 is state of the art. "Favorite Spring" is the winner of the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2023 in the Residential Housing category and the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence Austria 2022 in the category Altbau. It is only the 2nd project from Austria to make it to the international stage of the World Architecture Festival Awards, as a finalist in the WAF Completed Buildings: Housing category.
