On 4 June 2018, Dipl.-Ing. Muratcan Gümüs received the 2017 Scientific Award "Building Materials Recycling" for his diploma thesis entitled "Investigation of the mechanical properties of glass foam granulate for applications in road construction". This prestigious prize, which is endowed with € 1,000.00, is awarded once a year by the Austrian Construction Materials Recycling Association for an outstanding scientific publication. In his work, Mr. Gümüs dealt with a recycled construction material made from waste glass and investigated the application of this lightweight material in road construction. Within the framework of the A4/A23 motorway project at the Prater junction, the material was successfully installed in two ramps in the area of two existing tunnel and canal structures below. Due to the low weight of the glass foam granulate, it was possible to avoid excessive loads on the existing structures.   Photos: Dipl.-Ing. Mag. Thomas Kasper (BRV), Dipl.-Ing.
