Please help to minimize the risk of infection! All measures of TU Wien are valid until further notice and are evaluated monthly.

Safety and protective measures

  • Distance Learning: The majority of the approximately 2,000 courses has been transformed into distance learning formats. Teaching formats that cannot be held online, e.g. laboratory exercises, can be completed on site.
  • Examinations must be converted to an online format. Teachers receive support in the conversion to a suitable online examination format. If required, please contact the Distance Learning Team at Mailbox: Students and lecturers are invited to give feedback regarding online teaching by using the digital mailbox.
  • Opening hours: The TU Wien buildings are generally open Monday to Saturday between 06:00 and 20:00. On Sundays and public holidays we are closed as usual.
  • Learning rooms: Only the learning rooms for which there is a safety concept approved by the safety department can be used between 08:00 and 16:00, if this is necessary. Compliance with the security measures is checked by the TU Wien security service. This also applies to the learning rooms in the library.
  • Reporting of suspected/infected cases: Suspected cases must continue to be reported via the appropriate forms by staff and student employees as well as by students.
  • Get tested!

On campus

  • QR code registration: Students and staff are obliged to register in TISS by means of a QR code when entering the building. The registration when entering TU buildings is unconditional for all persons entering a TU building. This enables TU Wien to implement a central, digital and GDPR-compliant contact person management.
  • Separate ENTRANCES and EXITS are marked on site.
  • Minimum security distance of 2 meters.
  • FFP2 masks must be used in all public areas of the TUW.
  • Hygiene measures (regular hand and surface disinfection)
  • Get tested!

These regulations apply at all TU Wien locations. Since the working situations at the institutes and central departments are very different, an all-encompassing guideline is not possible. Therefore, everyone is requested and encouraged to act in accordance with these precautionary measures, even if this means changing traditional habits. We build on the solidary agreement between all members of the TU Wien to give top priority to the protection of the health of all members of the TU Wien.

Use the municipal offers at test centres, checkboxes or pharmacies (Coronatests in Vienna:, opens an external URL in a new window) and try:

  • "Alles gurgelt": Voluntary, free PCR self-test for home use; test kits are available for pick-up in Vienna BIPA shops: lab result digitally within 24 hours, 72 hours medical validity, multilingual lab result e.g. for border crossings.

High vaccination coverage is the best hope for reducing the spread of the virus. The National Vaccination Board in the Ministry of Health has made clear and unambiguous recommendations regarding which groups of persons are to be vaccinated in a certain phase of the national vaccination schedule:Österreich.html, opens an external URL in a new window.

The COVID-19 vaccinations in Vienna are also divided into certain phases:, opens an external URL in a new window. Teachers and employees of Viennese universities can register for the COVID-19 vaccination in the category "Pupils, students and university staff" and will be considered separately in the online registration.

Students and employees are obliged to register in TISS when entering the building. Access is registered by scanning a QR code. This can be

  1. on your own mobile device or
  2. with lending equipment which is available in the porter's lodges. These are disinfected after each use.
  3. TUW employees can alternatively register via their workstation computers.

All guests, companies and other non TUW members can register in two ways:

  1. Special access created by TUW employees in TISS (
  2. Registration in the guestbook in the porter's lodge

Thus, a centralized and GDPR-compliant digital contact person management is implemented at TU Wien. In the event of a (suspected) COVID-19 case, this enables fast, coordinated and effective action.

The standard camera app can be used as a QR reader on iOS devices. Android users can use QR Droid, opens an external URL in a new window or QR scanner, opens an external URL in a new window, for example.

Details and an exact description of the registration process can be found in the coLab of TU Wien at, opens an external URL in a new window Questions about contact person management can either be asked directly on the mentioned coLab page in the comment field at the bottom of the page or you can contact by e-mail.

The most important protective measure against COVID-19 infections is the safety distance of at least 2 metres!

This regulation applies to general premises such as entrance areas, staircases, lifts, corridors, social, sanitary and meeting rooms and to all institute work areas and rooms such as offices, warehouses or other workplaces.

An FFP2 mask must be used in all public areas of the TUW.

The TU Wien provides five FFP2 masks per month per employee on site through the GUT Service Unit of Safety and Occupational Health. The heads of institutes and departments are asked to report the demand of their organisational unit to They will then be contacted by the responsible person. You will then be informed by the responsible staff member about the place and time of collection of the FFP2 masks.

Filtering FFP2 masks are reusable. Two methods are recommended for their reprocessing: Regular changing and reuse only after a storage period of at least 3 days or sterilisation with steam under pressure (see leaflet, opens a file in a new window or, opens an external URL in a new window).

The regular cleaning or disinfection of door handles, railings, lift buttons, intercom systems and surfaces is ensured by GUT cleaning service unit. For an individual need of disinfection measures at institutes or in service departments (door buckles, telephone receivers, keyboards, folders, displays or operating elements of devices, printers and copiers, ...) both surface and hand disinfectants are made available to the individual research unit or research groups and service units or groups.
