Abstract:

The digitalization of technical processes has not been a stranger to companies for some time now. However, the administrative area of companies has remained largely untouched by the digital transformation to date. Especially in the order processing process, which is generally characterized by a large number of information flows and a high coordination effort, supporting activities play an essential role. Thus, these administrative processes offer great potential for the use of digital technologies and consequently for increasing the degree of digitization of companies.

The aim of this project is to identify and analyze the current state of the art with regard to the digitalization of administrative processes in order processing. In this context, both the influence of digital technologies on key performance indicator and maturity models for representing the degree of digitalization are examined. In addition, various models for evaluating industry 4.0 solutions – specifically for the use in digitalizing administrative order processing – are compared, with the best fitting model being used for the case study involving the company Knorr-Bremse GmbH.

Resultate:

The state-of-the-art research shows that administrative processes still play a subordinate role in companies compared to technical ones. Accordingly, the influence of digitalization of supporting activities on key performance indicators in production is largely unexplored. A similar picture emerges for the use of digital technologies in the administrative area of order processing. Currently, various barriers prevent companies from implementing industry 4.0 solutions to increase the efficiency of administrative processes.

The case study conducted in this project demonstrates a systematic approach to analyze and optimize the order fulfillment process and to determine a company's level of digitalization. The use case shows perfectly shows that the digital maturity level in the administrative area can be significantly increased by implementing an RFID technology.
