At Laurentiusplatz in Vienna, we explored this question through the design game Mission Super Neighborhood (as part of the MBD15 research project) – where players work together to make their neighborhood more sustainable, climate-friendly, and fair.
By completing individual and community missions, residents turned ideas into actions – funded through a “shared budget” of parking fees. Step by step, they transformed the street into a space for all.
Together with local residents and as part of „Laurentiusplatz – Offen für Alle(s)”, we tested how play can spark new thinking about urban space. Where cars once stood, trees, shared mobility offers, new meeting spots etc. are now blooming!
The event was organized by Marian Rudhart (PlanSinn Planung & Kommunikation GmbH). The game was co-designed by Linda Dörrzapf, Marlis Merkswohl and Aurelia Kammerhofer from research unit MOVE (Technische Universität Wien) as part of the Mobility Benefit Districts (MBD15) research project.
