Workshop for soil protection in the Salzkammergut!

On June 14, the research department Soil Policy and Soil Management of the Vienna University of Technology organized a workshop entitled "Soil Protection in the Salzkammergut" as part of the Salzkammergut Capital of Culture. For one afternoon, representatives of the municipalities in the Sparkassensaal Bad Ischl dealt with the challenge of land use in the Capital of Culture region.

The workshop started with a presentation by Dr. Arthur Schindelegger, opens an external URL in a new window where the challenges, trends and drivers of land use in the region were explained and analyzed in more detail. Next came a presentation by Univ.Prof. Dr. Arthur Kanonier, opens an external URL in a new window on the goals and instruments of soil protection. Afterwards the participants were invited to discuss in a round table in small groups about the different soil saving measures and their implementation in the Salzkammergut. With the help of regional maps and the expert inputs of Univ.Prof Dr. Arthur Kanonier and Dr. Arthur Schindelegger an active discussion developed. There was an intensive exchange between the communities about common challenges such as urban sprawl, second homes, large-scale tourism projects and the like.
