We're thrilled to welcome back Francis Okori, opens an external URL in a new window, our dedicated PhD scholarship holder from TU Wien, for his second research stint at our institute! Hailing from Uganda, Francis has been working over the past year, conducting multiple sampling campaigns at industrial composting plants across Uganda.
His journey took him to all 11 operational composting plants established by the World Bank under the Clean Development Mechanism, where he applied rigorous selection criteria. Ultimately, he selected the plants in Masindi and Mukono for in-depth investigations.

Francis's research focuses on evaluating the processes and performances of these plants by analyzing material flows and compost quality—covering nutrient content, contaminants, and both biological and chemical quality.

His goal? To provide actionable recommendations that enhance plant operations and improve the end products, making compost more sustainable and appealing to both commercial and subsistence farmers in the region.
We're excited to see the impact of his work and look forward to supporting him in this important endeavor!
