Police operation at TU Wien on June 12, 2025 - all-clear after threat

On Thursday morning, a dangerous threat was made to the security service. The police were informed and cordoned off the area around the TU Wien Freihaus. After intensive investigations, the all-clear was given at around 2.30 pm.

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, there was an extensive police operation at the Freihaus campus of TU Wien on Wiedner Hauptstraße. A man had entered the building at 10:30 a.m. and announced to a security employee that a bomb was going to explode. The employee immediately informed the police, who evacuated the building as a precaution and cordoned off the surrounding area. Public transport around Karlsplatz was also temporarily suspended. Police teams with knowledge of explosives and specially trained explosives dogs were on site to determine whether there was a threat. The special task force of the Vienna Professional Rescue Service was also deployed. After a thorough search and assessment by the emergency services, the all-clear was given at 14:30.

The police acted calmly, prudently and professionally. The Rectorate of TU Wien would like to thank the emergency services for their swift and level-headed action and all students, staff and attendees for their understanding and cooperation during the measures. University operations can continue with immediate effect.
