The close interconnection between innovation, repurposing, and infrastructure was highlighted by the diverse programme of this year’s Stakeholder Forum, held on 5 and 6 May at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz. Under the motto “Innovation Needs Infrastructure. Cultural Heritage. Digital. Rethought.”, the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS), Kulturpool, opens an external URL in a new window, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), and the Ars Electronica Center jointly hosted a multifaceted forum offering ample opportunities for exchange and discussion.
The event kicked off with an informative and interactive session organised by the FFG as part of the Horizon Europe Community Austria. In concise presentations, key European initiatives were introduced, including the Cultural Heritage Cloud (European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage, ECCCH), the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), and the Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage (CD4CH). This was followed by a discussion led by Angela Wieser (FFG) together with Christoph Steindl (Austrian National Library), Barbara Sánchez (TU Wien), and George Ioannidis (Time Machine Organisation) on the potential applications and opportunities offered by these programmes. To conclude the three-hour workshop, participants were invited to reflect on their priorities, concerns, and expectations regarding the open use of digitised cultural data in a World Café format.
