OeAD funded project “Advancing digital research infrastructures for cultural heritage research towards Open Science and FAIRness"

In a collaborative effort to enhance research data management practices within the domain of Glagolitic research, two interdisciplinary teams from Uni Zadar and TU Wien have joined forces.

The University of Zadar team brings forth essential requirements and its own repository system, which serves as the main use case for the project. Meanwhile, the team from TU Wien contributes extensive knowledge in computer science, particularly in data management, data stewardship, open science, repository development, ontology engineering, and machine-actionability.

The OeAD WTZ Kroatien project HR 09/2024, opens an external URL in a new window, which spans two years, is led by principal investigators Tomasz Miksa (TU Wien) and Marijana Tomic (Uni Zadar). It focuses on technical and organisational improvements that help advance digital transformation in the use case area. Emphasising the FAIR principles, the project seeks to bridge the gap between existing research data management services and data management processes for Glagolitic research.

The recent meetings on April 17th and April 18th, 2024, kindly hosted by SBA Research, opens an external URL in a new window, witnessed active participation from TU Wien researchers at the Data Science unit of the Faculty of Informatics, opens an external URL in a new window. Deliberations centred around various aspects, including the FAIRification of the Glagolab portal, opens an external URL in a new window, leveraging the capabilities of DBRepo, opens an external URL in a new window, and the potential creation of a Scientific Knowledge Graph tailored to Glagolitic research. A key highlight of the discussions was the investigation of novel methods for data exploration within the Glagolab framework.

Despite operating in seemingly disparate domains (digital humanities and computer science), the project underscores universal challenges encountered in data management. Through collaborative efforts and interdisciplinary exchange, the teams aim to develop prototypes and validate their findings with relevant stakeholders.

With continued support from the OeAD WTZ Kroatien funding, the project anticipates further follow-up meetings to navigate towards a more FAIR and open research landscape.
