Earth Day

April 22, 2021 is Earth Day, an initiative to raise awareness for our planet’s precarious condition.

Nick Sinner, MSc ETIA student, class 2019-21, shares his thoughts on the occasion.

"The motto of this year’s Earth Day – Restore Our Earth – aligns with the ongoing UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 and sheds light on the fact that we have devastated our planet beyond its own regenerating capacities. 'Leaving it alone' will not solve our crises anymore – all efforts have to be harmonized to rectify the damage we have done.

Earth Day is also a platform and opportunity to galvanize cooperation and strengthen ambitions for environmental recovery. A high-level summit on climate by the Biden administration is set to reinstate the US as a climate action leader although all invitees are currently failing to reach the Paris Agreement targets. It is the right of young people to demand an intact planet for their present and future. The right time to take sweeping action was yesterday, the second-best is now."
