TU Wien is pleased to announce the Global Fellowship Program, an extended guest professorship program, which offers international researchers funding and networking support at TU Wien for a period of 3-9 months. Global Fellows are uniquely integrated into TUW’s faculties and work together with a host for the duration of their time in Vienna. Global fellows participate in joint research projects and instruction and contribute to short- and long-term research initiatives. While in Vienna, they also receive administrative support from the International Welcome and Engagement Center, ensuring a seamless transition to Vienna.

Structure

The goal of the Global Fellowship Program at TU Wien is to establish a long-term level of sustained engagement between TU Wien faculty members and international researchers. After the initial guest professorship (3-9 months), additional stays can be funded, pending approval by the corresponding hosting unit/dean and the Vice Rectorate for Research, Innovation and Global Affairs, for up to five years. For example, a global fellow can apply for a project taking place in the spring 2026 semester for 6 months and then return in the following spring semester (and/or subsequent semesters within a period of 5 years). Each stay at TU Wien will be handled as a new guest professor appointment.

Eligibility

  • Academic staff at international institutions of higher education are eligible to apply for this program
  • All TUW Global Fellows must have a hosting faculty member or department for the duration of their visit, and the TU Wien host must submit a letter of support for the Global Fellowship Applicant at the time of application submission
  • Global Fellows are expected to complete both instructional and research responsibilities while at TU Wien, though individual projects may vary based on the scope of the proposal
  • The minimum timeline of a Global Fellowship is 3 months up to a maximum of 9 months.

Financial and Logistical Support

  • Global Fellows receive a monthly salary of EUR 6.000 for the duration of their stay in Vienna. TU Wien is unable to cover costs associated with travel to and from Vienna and accommodation
  • The International Welcome and Engagement Center provides support for Global Fellows in topics such as housing, visa/residence permits, and networking in Vienna
  • The hosting unit as well as the Vice Rectorate for Research, Innovation and International Affairs at TU Wien also support Global Fellows in expanding their professional network in Austria and Europe more broadly
  • Note for TU Wien hosting units: This program is financed centrally and the hosting unit is not responsible for the salary costs of Global Fellows.
