Titled “Co-creating Sustainable Solutions for Climate-Resilient Societies,” the EULiST Global Conference took place from November 19-21, 2025, at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Aranjuez, Spain. Our colleagues Johannes Suitner and Lucas Reckhaus participated with presentations on their own research and established contacts with researchers, practitioners, business representatives, and public administration.
Johannes Suitner was one of the co-organizers of the conference. On the first day, he chaired a panel on Circular Cities & Circular Design with experts from Mackenzie Presbyterian University in Sao Paolo, Leibniz University Hannover, TU Wien, and representatives from the city administrations of Vienna and Athens. On the second day, he presented his own research on conflicts in local energy transition in a panel on the societal dimension of transformation.
In the panel on digitalization and AI for urban change, Lucas Reckhaus addressed the tension between the new possibilities for mapping and understanding urban processes with digital systems vis-à-vis the challenges regarding costs, procedures, data security, human capital, and growing complexity.
The next EULiST conference will take place in Athens in 2027.
EULiST is an EU-funded networking initiative of ten European technical universities with the aim of strengthening cooperation in teaching and research.
