Dissertation: Evaluation of the load-bearing capacity of masonry made of brick-split concrete hollow blocks from the post-war period (1945-1965) in Vienna
Supervisor: Univ.Prof.i.R. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Andreas Kolbitsch
Content: Brick chippings – hollow blocks (vibroblocks) were produced from brick rubble in the post-war period and used as load-bearing masonry in a large number of Viennese residential buildings. In my dissertation, the material properties of the vibroblocks and the vibrobrickwork were analysed experimentally and numerically. This should provide an initial basis for future load-bearing capacity determinations in the context of renovations and loft conversions.
On 15 January 2025, Jasmin Gründling-Riener, TUW Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching, and Daniel Löcker, Head of the City of Vienna's Department of Science and Research Funding, presented the City of Vienna's scholarships, the 2024 Diploma Thesis Awards and the 2024 Dissertation Awards. What was new this time was that the prizes were presented outside of the diploma ceremony in order to honour the students' outstanding achievements.
In her welcoming address, Vice-Rector Jasmin Gründling-Riener expressed her ‘great appreciation for the outstanding achievements of our talented and motivated students’ and also thanked the supervisors of the respective theses ‘for their excellent support of young academics’.
These prizes are awarded once a year for outstanding theses and dissertations as part of a festive ceremony. The ceremony was accompanied by music from the TU Orchestra with two works by Johann Strauss.
