fem*cee is the women's network of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The women's network was created as a platform to support and connect women in “MINT” subjects and in civil and environmental engineering in particular. The aim is to promote exchange between female students, scientists and specialist staff, to offer mentoring opportunities and to establish a strong community that inspires and supports each other. To this end, fem*cee works together and networks with other women's networks at TU Wien in order to exploit synergies and exchange ideas.

fem*cee is open to all women at the Faculty. In addition to the opportunities available to all faculty staff, there are special opportunities for exchange and networking at the lunch time meetings and at workshops and events offered by the women's network.

One special initiative is the video series ‘Women Building Sustainability’. Starting in December 2025, the research work of inspiring women from the CEE faculty will be presented every two weeks, along with their ambitions and successes.

Workshop: Resilience in Academic Careers – How to Survive in a Male-Dominated Environment

This workshop offers a space to understand structural gender dynamics, reflect on common areas of tension, and explore practical strategies for navigating academic careers with greater clarity, agency, and resilience. 

While questions of visibility, time management, boundary-setting, networking, and career development are often experienced individually, they are closely connected to structural dynamics within academia – and that is exactly what we want to address together.

The workshop will be facilitated by Hannah Sturm and Marita Haas (collectiv:a and MH) – both experienced coaches and organisational consultants with a strong focus on gender equality in academia and organisations.

As part of the 2025–2027/28 performance agreement with the Rector’s Office, additional funds are being made available to support the participation of early-career female researchers from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering in workshops, conferences, and other academic events.

These funds are intended to encourage and support young female researchers in the development of their professional careers and the further development of their technical and social skills.
