Dipl.-Ing. Philipp Reingruber – Awarded the Dieberger–Skalicky Scholarship 2025/26

As one of eight Austrian PhD students of TU Wien, Philipp Reingruber was awarded an Andreas Dieberger-Peter Skalicky Scholarship 2025/26 in the amount of €4,000.

Philipp Reingruber studied „Electrical Engineering and Information Technology“ and „Telecommunications“ at TU Wien and worked at the institute on the development of the 5G testbed. Starting with a master thesis on source coding for graph signal processing (GSP), he has been conducting research on high-performance GSP via localized frames with Prof. Gerald Matz since last year.

GSP allows to process data on irregular domains like sensor networks; due to the lack of symmetries, however, the graph Fourier transform is computationally limited to small-to-medium sized graphs. Reingruber and Matz thus develop the concept of localized graph frames, where many local Fourier transforms are overlapped. This allows for a simple analysis-synthesis procedure and a significant speedup. Apart from building a theoretical framework, their research focus lies in the applicability of LGFs for signal processing methodologies and graph neural networks.

The scholarship provides financial assistance for conferences and research stays at other GSP research groups, both of which promote academic exchange and visibility. The scholarship submissions were reviewed by a prestigious TUW jury based on criteria like innovation capability and methodology. Prof. Margret Dieberger bequeathed her fortune to TU Wien; yields therefrom benefit excellent students. The scholarship was named after Margret Dieberger’s son Andreas, who was supported by late TUW Rector Peter Skalicky, before he died prematurely.
