Leading the Energy Transition – Meet Our MSc Alumni

20 Years of MSc Renewable Energy Twenty years ago, a group of passionate individuals embarked on a journey at TU Wien, diving deep into the world of renewable energy. Today, these pioneers are driving innovation, leading global projects, and shaping the future of sustainability!

Erol User

To celebrate this milestone, we’re catching up with our very first alumni Erol User, opens an external URL in a new window (President & CEO USER Corporation). We asked:

What’s the most rewarding aspect of working in renewable energy?

  • Environmental Impact: Contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and helping combat climate change is immensely fulfilling. Professionals in this field can directly influence the health of the planet.
  • Sustainable Development: Engaging in projects that promote sustainable resource use ensures that future generations will have access to clean energy and natural resources.
  • Innovation: The renewable energy sector is at the forefront of technological advancements. Working in this field often involves developing and implementing innovative solutions, which can be intellectually stimulating and exciting.
  • Job Growth and Opportunities: As the world shifts towards renewable energy, job opportunities in this sector are rapidly increasing. This growth provides a sense of job security and the chance to be part of a dynamic and evolving industry.
  • Community Benefits: Renewable energy projects often lead to job creation and economic development in local communities, allowing professionals to see the direct benefits of their work on people's lives.
  • Collaboration and Networking: Working in renewable energy often involves collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders, including scientists, engineers, policymakers, and community members, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

Overall, the combination of making a positive environmental impact, driving innovation, and contributing to sustainable development makes working in renewable energy particularly rewarding.

If I had to describe the MSc to a prospective student in one sentence, I would say:

“The MSc program offers a rigorous blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for advanced careers in their chosen field.”

What’s the most promising renewable energy trend right now?

By 2030, we expect renewables to be meeting half of global electricity demand. By the end of this decade, the share of wind and solar PV alone in global electricity generation is set to double to 30%, according to the forecast.

Stay tuned as we share the inspiring stories of our alumni throughout the year! And if you’re one of our early graduates, we’d love to hear from you!
