On a warm June 25, the TU Wien Academy for Continuing Education, together with Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, brought the summer semester to a close with the REN Expert Talk Winds of Change – Austria’s Wind Energy in Transition.

Inside the TU Wien Library, a diverse audience of professionals, students, and alumni gathered for a focused, forward-looking conversation about Austria’s wind energy future.

Florian Maringer from IG Windkraft set the tone by outlining the country’s evolving wind energy policy landscape, emphasizing the need for clear regulations and stable funding to drive growth.

Nicola Kofler of Wien Energie followed with fresh perspectives on how to build public acceptance and involve communities early in the process. She lightened the mood with a memorable question during her talk: do wind turbines or cats pose a bigger threat to birdlife? It was a pointed reminder of the myths that often influence public opinion.

Michael Strudler from Wendy Kleinwindkraft showcased innovative small-scale wind solutions, highlighting how their compact turbines power mobile units for the Austrian Armed Forces. This example underscored that the Bundesheer’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its iconic green uniforms.

Moderated by DI Karin Mottl, CEO of Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, the discussion wove together policy, social acceptance, and technological innovation, touching on challenges like permitting and community engagement. The event closed with informal networking over drinks and snacks, where conversations continued in a relaxed atmosphere.

We thank all participants and speakers for their valuable contributions and look forward to welcoming everyone again in the autumn to keep the momentum going.
